Baseline Field Measurement Campaign for Mekong Living Lab Site Assessment

ICOE conducted a baseline field measurement campaign at the Hoa Binh and Nha Mat study sites to evaluate fieldwork procedures, collect environmental data in shallow coastal areas, and assess site conditions for the establishment of the Mekong Living Lab.
From 12 to 22 August 2024, researchers from the Institute of Coastal and Offshore Engineering (ICOE) carried out a baseline field measurement campaign at the Hoa Binh and Nha Mat study sites in Bac Lieu Province.
The campaign was designed to evaluate the feasibility of field operations, including logistics, equipment transportation, and monitoring device installation under local conditions. Researchers also collected environmental measurements in shallow coastal areas to support the development of long-term monitoring activities.
In addition to environmental observations, the team compared the characteristics of the two study sites by assessing local infrastructure, accessibility, logistical support, and community conditions. Factors such as transportation, availability of local services, access to survey locations, and technical support for equipment installation were evaluated to determine their suitability as future Mekong Living Lab sites.
The findings provided important baseline information for planning field operations and establishing criteria for selecting and developing Living Lab locations in the Mekong Delta.
