Community and Stakeholder Engagement for Mangrove Restoration in Bac Lieu

Researchers from the Institute of Coastal and Offshore Engineering (ICOE) conducted community engagement activities in Bac Lieu Province through interviews with local farmers and technical discussions with local authorities.

The discussions focused on key issues related to mangrove restoration and protection, including coastal erosion, the construction of breakwaters, mangrove management practices such as thinning and disease control, and cooperation with local households in protecting coastal ecosystems.

Local authorities also shared practical challenges affecting coastal management, including limited monitoring equipment, resource constraints, and conflicts between conservation efforts and local livelihoods. These exchanges provided valuable local knowledge and highlighted opportunities for future research and collaboration through the Mekong Living Lab project to support sustainable coastal resilience.
