TU Delft Student Study Tour to the Mekong Living Lab

Students from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) visited ICOE and the Mekong Living Lab in Nha Mat as part of an academic study tour to explore coastal engineering practices, nature-based solutions, and the environmental challenges facing the Mekong Delta.
As part of an international Study Tour, a group of students from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) visited the Institute of Coastal and Offshore Engineering (ICOE) to learn about the institute's research activities and ongoing coastal engineering projects.
The program continued with a field visit to the Mekong Living Lab in Nha Mat, Bac Lieu Province, where students observed nature-based coastal protection initiatives, including breakwater systems designed to promote sediment deposition, restore mangrove forests, and reduce coastal erosion.
During the field trip, the students also visited aquaculture areas, the sea dyke system, and coastal sections near the wind power plant where they examined the impacts of coastal squeeze on shoreline dynamics and coastal ecosystems. The study tour provided valuable opportunities to connect academic knowledge with real-world coastal management practices while strengthening collaboration between TU Delft and ICOE.
