Mekong Delta Living Lab Research Team Conducts Large-Scale Field Monitoring Campaign in Vinh Chau

As part of the 2026 research program, the Mekong Delta Living Lab project successfully completed its largest field monitoring campaign during the first half of the year in the coastal area of Vinh Chau.

Between 22 and 30 June 2026, researchers from the Institute of Coastal and Offshore Engineering (ICOE) and Thuy Loi University deployed and operated a comprehensive monitoring network consisting of Wave Buoy, WaveGauge, Mini Buoy, and Diver instruments. The monitoring systems were installed at representative locations to continuously measure waves, water levels, and coastal currents under varying environmental conditions.

The campaign included instrument preparation, offshore deployment of the Wave Buoy, installation of WaveGauge systems near the mangrove forest edge, and operation of the existing Mini Buoy and Diver monitoring stations. Throughout the campaign, researchers ensured the stability and performance of all instruments to obtain high-quality field observations.

The collected datasets will provide valuable information for investigating coastal hydrodynamics, sediment transport, numerical model calibration, and the role of mangrove forests in wave attenuation, shoreline protection, and climate resilience across the Mekong Delta.

The successful completion of the campaign marks an important milestone for the Mekong Delta Living Lab project, strengthening its long-term monitoring network and providing a robust scientific foundation for future coastal research and sustainable coastal management.
